Why 101.

Well, it is official. I have satisfied the 32 required hours to sit for the Louisiana State Insurance Exam. I know some are wondering why I am doing this. For those of you who know me know that I have had my hand in several types of ventures and probably believe that this is another one of my ideas to make a quick buck. Just a quick note: when it comes to insurance there is no quick buck. I started thinking several months ago about providing mortgage cancellation insurance in my mortgage business. At the moment, I have a prospect in his 70's that is looking to refinance his residential mortgage. What type of mortgage can he qualify for? Only a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. I had to ask myself if he was to pass away tomorrow, his widow would have to pay the balance of his mortgage ($300,000) out of the estate proceeds, and in his case only $500,000 life insurance policy. This would leave her with $200,000, a paid in full mortgage, and whatever social security benefits were available. This is why I have decided to offer mortgage cancellation insurance as a product in my mortgage business, because it is cheap enough to pay on a monthly basis, and no medical exam is needed. Just a little food for thought.

Driving for UPS allows me to meet a wide range of people with diverse personalities, lifestyles, and character. There is a man on one of my routes that I would like to tell you about. The first time I delivered to his home, I noticed that it was surrounded by a fence and inside the fence was a ferocious chow that was not letting me enter. So, I started blowing my horn thinking to my self that this was going to take forever. I knew that if someone didn't come out soon I would have to bag the package and hang it on the fence (taking additional time). While I was complaining to myself I saw the door open and an elderly man come walking down a ramp toward me. As he got closer to me, I could see him smiling and as he asked me what he could do for me I realized he was totally blind. I told him who I was and handed him his package. As I drove off began to think how blessed I was. I have my health, my sight, a beautiful family, and a great job (one that I have taken for granted many times in the past). I just want to say that I love my Lord, I love my wife, I love my family, and I am thankful for my many blessings...but unfortunately still find time to complain...shame on me.

Take care.

Classroom studies

Back several months ago I decided that I would become licensed to sell insurance products. Since for several years I have believed in life insurance to provide my wife and family with a way to preserve their way of life in case something was to happen to me I figured that I should obtain my license and provide insurance to my mortgage business clientele. Yep, that is right...I am also a mortgage broker providing residential and commercial loans to anyone interested in the best deal going. My motto is "If you can obtain a better deal that I have for you I will take you and a guest to Ruth's Chris steakhouse." Well, in the 5 years I have been originating loans I have never had anyone take me up on this offer. Anyway, on to the class. Today was the second of four days of the 32 hour requirement in order to sit for the state licensing exam. I must say that if I was an instructor I would open the class by stating these exact words:

"In order to show respect for all participants in the class, if anyone must eat ice, constantly sniffle, rub oneself every 15 seconds, or make any other type of noise that is distracting to everyone else please go outside."

Now I am not trying to be a jerk about this, but for the last two days, 8 hours each day out of a class of 12 we had one guy that had to chomp on his ice for the entire class time, and another that had to constantly rub his left leg and left arm to the point that it sounded like he was rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together...constantly, all the while as he would sniffle two short loud inward thrusts of air in to his nose in order to keep it from running. I understand that he may have had allergies or a cold but come on, have some respect and go out and blow your nose. It may not sound like much, but for those of us in the class who are trying to grasp as much information as possible in order to reduce the possibility of failing the state licensing exam, these irritations were very distracting.

The beginning of LSU93

I may not always be gramatically correct but I will always try to be interesting. The family of LSU93 are as follows:

Ella
Foxy mama...the name I see on my cell phone when she is calling. Beautiful mom and wife who is a full time teaching assistant and is studying to obtain her teaching degree from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Hil
The oldest of three daughters. Independent with a desire to go to college and (at the moment) become a Psychologist. I am rooting for her and hoping that she takes it all the way.

Lulu
The middle daughter. She loves to sing and act. I truly believe that she has the potential to go a long way in singing and acting. At the moment I am trying to convince her to practice singing "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin, as sung by Kevin Spacey.

Grace
The youngest of three and I must say with a personality all to her own. It is such a delight to be able to watch her get on the bus every morning.  As she is leaving out the door, she will usually say "love you", and I will say the same back. Then, as she is getting on the bus, I will say "have a good day Mallory" and she will glance back at me and with her right hand by her waist flap it in a waving motion as if to be signaling "see you later."

I
That is me. I currently am a driver for United Parcel Service. I also dabble in entrepreneurism and enjoy writing on an idea which I hope to turn in to a book someday.

Lastly, there are many more in my extended family, which I will introduce to you as time passes.
